National Bridal Market in Chicago

What a month it has been! September has been one crazy, but exciting month. As many of you know I have worked for a bridal store, Modern Dress in my hometown for almost three years now. This past weekend I was lucky enough to travel to Chicago to attend Bridal Market. This trip was such a wonderful learning experience and definitely was the perfect reassurance of my passion for fashion!

 A Night Out In Chicago

Saturday night was a fun night for us girls! We were able to go to dinner and experience a little of Chicago! For dinner we went to the cutest nautical themed restaurant called the Hampton Social!

After enjoying dinner, we traveled to Restoration Hardware. I was immediately in heaven when entering Restoration Hardware! How fun to enjoy the atmosphere and people while going while moving from floor to floor admiring the design of each room!

To end the night we went to the Drake Hotel! This hotel has carried rich history in the city of Chicago. For over 80 years! The Drake Hotel has been described as a symbol of white glove elegance. The hotel has accommodated guests from Queen Elizabeth to Elizabeth Taylor. You could just feel the history as soon as you entered the grand hotel!

Market Day 1:

Rise and shine!

8 AM we were ready to go and enjoying breakfast at the Merchandise Mart. The Merchandise Mart is the second largest building in the world with 4,000,000 square feet in floor space. As we entered the 7th floor, I was overwhelmed with how many booths filled the room!

We first went to Mori Lee to enjoy a runway show and choose dresses from the Spring 2018 Collection! After the bridal show, we hand picked prom dresses! While picking out these dresses, you can quickly see what the trends will be this upcoming season!

After Mori Lee, we visited many other designers we carry at Modern Dress including, Badgley Mischka, Maggie Sottero, and Casablanca! The day was long, but the greatest hands on experience I could ever imagine!

Market Day 2:

Our second and final day began with Jasmine Bridal. After a little breakfast at Jasmine we quickly went to work to pick out Spring bridesmaids dresses!

After bridesmaids, we had to do a bit more prom shopping!  For prom we visited Faviana. Howard from Faviana showcased these beautiful prom dresses which made the experience even more entertaining! Day 2 came to an end and it was back to our little store in Iowa.

 I can't be thankful enough for this opportunity! I can't wait to go again!!

A Week With My Wardrobe: College Edition

School is officially in session!

As I am slowly falling back into a routine, so are my outfits! I would describe my college style to be more casual and easy going. Always on the go from class to class, I make sure comfort is my number one priority.

My schedule this semester is a little odd compared to most. I don't have class on Monday, Wednesday, or Fridays. On my days off I enjoy studying at coffee shops, as well as working at Modern Dress! Unfortunately that means Tuesdays and Thursdays I am on the go from 8am-5pm.

The outfits I chose to show are some of my favorite basic pieces I have in my closet. I also included what I like to wear when I am off for class and working!

Monday

For my Monday outfit, I chose a black high-low maxi skirt paired with a fun grey tank top! This outfit is so easy to dress up with jewelry, or a fun shoe!

On Monday's I usually like to find a study spot outside on campus! :-)

Grey Tank: Forever 21

Black Maxi: TjMaxx

Tuesday

If I were to choose an outfit that best fits me (and could honestly wear everyday of my life) it would be this one.

I love this simple outfit for so many reasons. First, I love mixing black and brown together in my outfits. The brown just pops so well with the black tank. Secondly, if you know me, you know I always always always am wearing hats. They just complete almost every casual outfit for me. Lastly, this outfit is so moveable with the wide legged jeans! LOVE!

Blank Tank: Rue 21

Belt: American Eagle

Jeans: Target

Shoes: Target

Purse: Made Well

Hat: .... (stole from my mama)

Wednesday

Wednesday is here, which means work day!

This is the perfect break in my week to get my mind off of class and onto work! Every Wednesday I drive back to my hometown of Boone to work at a bridal store, Modern Dress. This job has been the best learning opportunity for me when it comes to fashion, business, and people skills! For this outfit I paired our new logo t-shirts with a delicate tulle skirt!

Shirt: Modern Dress

Skirt: Francesca's

Thursday

Back to class for my Thursday outfit!

Can you sense the pattern that I have an obsession with black!!!

I would say 70% of my closet is black, white or grey. Black is just so easy to throw on and pair with anything!  I love this form fitting workout outfit, because it is so easy to run around campus. And why wouldn't I put a hat with it??

P.S. thanks grandma for my new running shoes ;-)

Tank: Old Navy

Jacket: Maurices

Pants: Lulu Lemon

Shoes: Nike

Hat: Chi Omega

Friday

Friday! Let's get ready for the weekend!

My favorite color lately has been olive. I think this is the perfect color to transition from Summer to Fall. Especially with changing weather, I always like to keep my outfits lightweight.

Sweatshirt: Gap

Jeans: Express

Shoes: Journeys

I can easily say it feels so good to be back at college surrounded with all of my friends and back to learning lots of new things!

Hope you enjoyed a peek into what I wear in my week! :-)

Beauty In A Box

Happy Tuesday!

Welcome to my first beauty post! :-)

Last week I received my first BirchBox! This has become a very popular subscription package  for women to use to sample quality beauty products. Many of you have probably heard of Stitch Fix or Nordstrom's Trunk Club, which sends clothing similar to your style.

BirchBox is very similar, but contains 5 beauty samples that are shipped to you each month for just $10.  I chose BirchBox mostly for the amazing reviews I have read and the quality products they carry. A little extra Bonus, it comes in a really cute box! ;-)

{Scroll to see my review on the 5 samples I received this month!}

1. Mac Prep + Prime

I typically don't use primer, mostly because I never spend too much time on my makeup. This week I experimented with this primer and LOVE it! In the past I have used bareMinerals Prime Time and really noticed the difference. The bareMinerals primer, a silicone based primer, did not give my face the finish I was looking for. The MAC primer gave my face a smooth texture to prevent shine the whole day! I would highly recommend trying it out!

2. Beautaniq Beauty Blush Serum

This blush serum was really something fun and unique to try! The serum is more of a tinted skincare product for your face. Some of the ingredients include Vitamin E and apricot seed oil. When applying this to my face the color was a little too strong for my liking. Overall, I like the idea of this product but in reality would definitely stick to a blush powder.

3. Marcelle Hydra-C 24H Energizing Hydrating Gel

I usually use face masks at the end of the day, never a hydrating gel at the beginning! This gel includes green tea, cucumber extracts, and Vitamin C and E. The combination of these ingredients is meant to nourish and hydrate your skin. The product recommends applying on a clean face before your day.  I sampled this gel at about 6 AM, knowing I wanted to look and feel awake while I worked from 7AM-2PM. I loved the way my face felt throughout the day and my under eyes seemed more awake!

4. Klorane Dry Shampoo

To start off, I absolutely love dry shampoo!!! I use dry shampoo daily, and this sample size is perfect to throw into my purse to use at anytime! What I LOVED about this product was it never left my hair looking white, like most dry shampoos do. My roots are fairly dark so the whiteness of dry shampoo is hard to cover up. Not only did it absorb the oil in my hair, it gave my second day hair some body!

5. Oribe Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray

When sampling beauty products for my hair I always look to see if it smells good. If you are looking for the same aspect, try this spray out! I tried this spray both on my wet and dry hair. When using it on my wet hair, I didn't get the result I wanted. My hair just did not hold any wave to it. When I tried it on my dry hair, I loved it! This spray gave my hair the perfect textured look I wanted.

I loved my first BirchBox and can't wait to see next months!

In The Heart Of Texas

This summer has been all about traveling whether it's to the very top of the United States in Minnesota or to the very bottom in the heart of Texas.

This past week my best friend Paige and I traveled to visit our friend Haiden, whom we have not seen in three years! Three years ago we were just young high school girls that always sang in the car, never missed a trip to McDonald's, and loved to laugh. We quickly figured out nothing really has changed!

Before I tell you about our fun girls week, take a look at this transformation!!!!

{We obviously have still kept our love for car selfies ;-)}

My favorite moments from this week have been waking up to that sweet baby giggle and drinking coffee with the bestest friends. Each morning we would relax, drink coffee, and just be together. By the afternoon we went out to shop! Haizlee is the funniest little baby and loves to go out with the girls! By night, all us girls made dinner while Michael had some daddy/daughter time. Bedtime came for Haizlee, and us girls had some of our own time. Each night we sat out on the patio laughing until our stomachs hurt! Not to mention we stayed up way too late. By morning we just couldn't wait to take that morning nap with baby Haizlee. Saying goodbye to Haiden and Haizlee was so hard, but it's never a goodbye just a see you later <3

{Click through the gallery to see some photos from our week!}

This week has been so special to my heart. I have loved seeing my beautiful friend be who she is meant to be, a mom. Haizlee Grace may look just like her daddy, but oh my she sure has her mama's personality. The sass, the giggle, the stare is her mama shining through her. When Haiden is with Haizlee the love just fills the room, you can feel it all around you. I have never been so proud of a friend until I witnessed one of them being a mom. Haiden, you are the most beautiful, strongest, and happiest woman I know. I hope someday I could be half the mom you are. I love you with my whole heart!

A Week With My Wardrobe

From lake life, to city life, to family time on Sunday it has been a fun-filled week!

For my first post I wanted to share a week in my summer wardrobe! I started this week in Clear Lake, Iowa visiting one of my best friend's, Kate! There is no better place to spend the Fourth of July week than by the water.

After a relaxing week by the lake, we headed up North to visit my Minnesota bestie Alicia! Minneapolis is the perfect place to shop, unwind, and find the cutest places to lunch with my girls.  This past Saturday we spent the day in Uptown eating lunch on the rooftop at Stella's, spending way too much money on clothes, and ending with dinner on a ferris wheel at Betty Danger's.

As sad as I was to leave my friends, I couldn't wait to spend time with my family.  I was honored to be chosen as my cousin Andrew's Godmother for his Baptism!

Nothing fills my heart with more joy than spending time with my family and friends.

{Scroll to see my wardrobe of the week!}

Whether it's a bikini or a one piece red, white, and blue is a must for the Fourth of July! My bikini is from Target, which is my favorite place to get affordable swimsuits that I can mix and match! Kate's one piece is from a unique website call zaful.com. This website has really different pieces of clothing, swimsuits, and shoes for super affordable!

Bikini: Target

One Piece: Zaful

Earth tones are always my go to when picking out an outfit. I could wear black everyday of my life! These pants have been my absolute favorite this summer and they are from Salvation Army!

Tank: Old Navy

Pants/Belt: Salvation Army

Wedges: Gap

I LOVE one piece swimsuits. You can't go wrong with any type of one piece swimsuit. The off the shoulder makes this a stylish suit to wear to the beach!

Swimsuit: Tjmaxx

Sunglasses: Target

I could spend my whole summer in denim shorts and a simple shirt. I especially love this look because each piece is from Salvation Army!

*Tip* If you have a hard time finding shorts that are too tight or just aren't quite long enough, cut off a pair of jeans and make your own! Every pair of denim shorts I own I have distressed and made myself!

I love the darker tones of this dress! This dress is perfect if you are going for a boho look. The long-bell sleeves are so cute and stylish for a summer dress!

Dress: Target {I got this on clearance, but click the link for a similar style!}

This multi colored grey dress {which is from my favorite store!} was so comfortable and perfect to pair with white heels. The transitional patterns from top to bottom made it an eye catcher.

Dress: Altar'd State {unfortunately the dress is no longer available}

Heels: Target
